The KT winds across an ancient escarpment, a rugged backbone of southern Indiana shaped by some of North America's earliest Ice Age action. While much of Indiana was flattened and reshaped by glaciers, the Knobstone's steep ridges and deep hollows endured, creating the state's most challenging and geologically distinctive hiking terrain.
