In spirit and function, FTXs operate as an MWR‑style offering for military-connected families.
Many generous partners and our local 501(c)(19) members develop and field the resource share with a simple first mission: Hoosier Hospitality. They provide equipment, trail recommendations, and onsite activities to help make the most of your Lake Monroe and Hoosier National Forest outing.
Gold Shield refers to a developing national recognition for families of fallen first responders. It has appeared in recent congressional resolutions, but it remains an emerging status, not yet written into federal law. As Congress continues to shape the designation, Gold Shield serves as a growing civic symbol meant to honor the weight carried by these families and to highlight their place in the nation’s broader culture of service.
Honor Project
The cabins are taking shape, but the mission reaches further. The Honor Project builds partnerships with local organizations and individuals dedicated to hosting Gold Star and Gold Shield Families.
